Ownership Quotes

Alex Meruelo – Majority Owner, Chairman & Governor of the Arizona Coyotes

“This is an incredible moment for me and my entire family.
The Arizona Coyotes team is poised to do great things on and off the ice.
I look forward to helping hockey continue to thrive in the desert,
and I am committed to providing our passionate fans, loyal partners and
the entire state of Arizona with a team they can be proud of for years to come.”

Phoenix Business Journal, Jul 29, 2019, Done deal: Sale of the Arizona Coyotes finalized

Andrew Barroway – Minority Owner of the Arizona Coyotes

“I am thrilled to be here and am thrilled to be an owner and would not have gone through this difficult process
in buying a team just to go flip it. I don't think people buy teams to make money. That's not the goal.
You try not to lose too much, but no, I certainly did not buy it for a quick flip. I can't state that any more emphatically.”

FoxSports, Jan 2, 2015, Q&A with Coyotes majority owner Andrew Barroway

“We want to find ways to work together and do what's best for the team and do what's best for Glendale.”

Arizona Republic, Jun 9, 2015, Coyotes majority owner meets with City of Glendale officials

“When the teams does well, the city does well. And when the city does well, the team does well.
it's a mutually-beneficial relationship, and we'd like for it to be as great as possible.”

Arizona Republic, Jun 9, 2015, Coyotes majority owner meets with City of Glendale officials

“As Commissioner Bettman made clear in his letter to legislators, the Arizona Coyotes Hockey
Club cannot survive in Glendale. The Glendale location is wrong -- both geographically and
economically -- given its distance from much of the Coyotes' fan base and, in particular,
premium ticketholders and corporate sponsors.”

“While we cannot and will not stay in Glendale, we will continue to push our proposed public-private

partnership until we either achieve a long-term arena solution in a more economically viable
location in the Valley, or we reach the point where there is simply no longer a path forward in
Arizona.”

Arizona Republic, Mar 7, 2017, NHL and Coyotes tell Arizona: Give us a new arena or we will leave

“It will get done because it has to get done," Barroway said. "Failure is not an option here.
We're going to get a new stadium in Arizona, where it should have been located to begin with.”

Arizona Republic, Jul 13, 2017, Andrew Barroway reaffirms commitment to keeping Coyotes in Arizona

[When requesting a wide-ranging interview w/Coyotes owner Andy Barroway on payroll,
confidence in management/coaching, pursuit of investors, search for new arena, etc.
He decided it wasn’t the appropriate time, but offered this statement through the team:]

“As we embark on the 2018-19 Coyotes season, I want all of the focus and attention where it should be:
on our exciting and dynamic hockey team, which is turning heads around the NHL;
on our work to expand and enhance fandom throughout the marketplace;

everyday to make this a best-in-class organization in Arizona for many years to come.”

Ahron Cohen – Team President and CEO

[Question on next steps as President/CEO]
“It’s really three key things: We are trying to grow hockey fandom in the Valley, develop a competitive team and positively enrich our community.
Everything we do, organizationally, from top-to-bottom, is focused on achieving those three goals.”

We're still focused on achieving our long-term arena solution here in Arizona. But if we accomplish those three goals I mentioned, everything takes care of itself.
The long-term arena answers will come when we have something to report, but for the time being, we’ll just focus on achieving our core goals.

Proposed Priest-Rio Salado Project (Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport web site)

In July 2021, the City of Tempe solicited proposals to develop a new sports arena and mixed-use development adjacent to Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport. Tempe received one proposal from Bluebird Development, a firm that represents the Arizona Coyotes Hockey Franchise. The proposed location is at the northeast corner of Rio Salado Parkway and Priest Drive. The development could pose significant operational challenges for the airport, including potential flight path impacts from structures and intended uses. New information about this topic will be published to the page link above.
